For over 25 years, we have provided exceptional child and adolescent therapy, family counseling, behavioral health therapy, psychotherapy, and other mental health services to the region.
Why does student mental health matter?
Mental health is a critical part of our overall health. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, impacting how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
A child’s poor mental health can impact their life in many areas, including poor decision-making, low grades, chemical dependency, and their overall emotional health.
Children and teens may be under stress, caused by social media, teasing, academic pressure, gender identity questions, exposure to abuse or violence, divorce or separated parents, traumatic home environment, neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder), or other factors.
Child and teen mental health statistics
1 in 6 children ages 6-17 has a treatable mental health disorder:
- 50% of mental health issues begin by age 14
- 75% of mental health problems develop by the age of 24
- In 2023, more than 1 in 5 students seriously considered suicide
- Ohio is ranked #11 out of all states for teen suicide rates (10 out of every 100,000 adolescents aged 15-19)
The mental health crisis among children leads to a vicious cycle, where 1 of 5 American adults experiences mental health issues.
The barriers to seeking care

The reasons for this include:

- Fear of disclosing mental health problems

Frequently Asked Questions
The school provides guidance counselors. What's the difference?
Mindfully school-based therapists confidentially diagnose and/or treat mental health conditions or disorders, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder, and much more. School guidance counselors may not be licensed or have the time to provide mental health services. Mindfully’s therapists partner with school staff, including guidance counselors, to coordinate the best outcomes for students.
Aside from individual therapy, what other services do you offer to students?
In addition to therapy, our licensed clinicians can provide in-setting observation and/or intervention for students we are working with. We offer support groups with topics including self-esteem, anger management, bullying, life and social skills development, and more. In addition, we offer drug and alcohol education programs. We also offer programs for students, teachers, and staff, developed to meet specific school needs, including student transition programs, teacher training programs, etc.
Can students schedule appointments at your office?
Office appointments are an option. Mindfully has two locations in Northeast Ohio: Strongsville and Aurora. However, by providing services in school, we can work with and treat students in a critical environment and communicate directly with teachers and staff. We do this all while accommodating the needs of working parents.
Can students see their Mindfully therapist online?
Absolutely. Online therapy is a flexible and easy way for students to meet with a therapist during holiday breaks and when school is closed. Mindfully has an easy-to-use, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform. Students just need their phone or computer, access to WiFi, and a quiet, private space.
How much does Mindfully’s student therapy service cost the school?
Mindfully coordinates directly with insurance companies and Medicaid for therapeutic services. Parents’ costs will depend on their insurance deductibles. Mindfully also offers affordable out-of-network costs and cash-pay options for parents and guardians who do not have in-coverage insurance.
